December 21st, 2012 - the end-date of the
Mayan Long Count calendar, predicted to be the date of
Armageddon. It started out
small. Murders are reported around the world-- some seeming to have died for no apparent cause, others are unusually gruesome. But the effect rapidly spreads, until there are witnesses and high profile homicides. Seemingly unnatural
demonic creatures have arrived on Earth and have unleashed a
global war, targeting powerful and powerless alike.
In
Japan, the
sailor soldiers are once again forced to interrupt their own lives in order to save the world. But things take a turn for the worst when goverments began to blame each other. On the brink of
nuclear war,
Sailor Moon and the
senshi step into the uncertain realm of keeping the nations of Earth from destroying each other while trying to save the world from Chaos.
Their lives are changed forever as their true identities are revealed and spread in the media, their abilities questioned and feared, and as governments topple under Chaos' advancing forces.
A year and a half later the
senshi are triumphant, but left holding the pieces of a war-torn and weary world. On a wave of popular support, Tsukino Usagi is crowned
Neo Queen Serenity, Queen of Earth. Promising transparency and freedom, she declassifies thousands of legacy documents from governments of the past, revealing the results of secret experiments documenting the existance of paranormal powers such as telepathy and astral projection. In the face of scientific documentation of the existance of
magic, for even the senshi's powers were little understood and much debated amongst the citizens of Earth, the world is sent into shock. Citizens begin to discover they were once members of the
Silver Millennium, and have age-old abilities. Those who have not been reincarnated see their peers' strange powers as a threat and a challenge, reigniting the age-old
ethnic strife of the
Silver Millennium in the 21st Century.
While some have used magic to advance technology and civilization, others use it to exploit and control. Eugenics fringe groups run underground experiments on abducted
Silver Millennium reincarnates, trying to find a way to advance their own genetic lines.
Extremists use it as a
weapon to strike against the new government in order to try and spark a
guerilla war. Meanwhile, even moderates question the global government's outright ban on the practice of
necromancy and
voodooism.
But tension between the reincarnates of the
Silver Millennium and the true native Terrans isn't the only skeleton in the closet. On the eve of the ascension to the throne,
Serenity was presented with the text of a
prophecy detailing the existance of the
Shitennou in four stones, and warned that should the spirits in these stones be reconciled with their unwitting human counterparts on Earth, that '
the White Moon will be eclipsed' and '
the shining guardians of the Sol system... rendered into utter desolation.'
Five years after the coronation, even as old problems have been solved by the existance of a global government, new ones arise, and the
senshi are quietly looking for the
Shitennou's darker halves who live amongst the civilians on Earth. Meanwhile, Chaos is regrouping, beginning to recruit disparate groups of those discontented with
Serenity's regime. Out of the reincarnates come a different group of four-- the four former
senshi of the
previous Queen Serenity of the
Silver Millenium.
But will these old guards come to the aide of the new queen's court? Or will they compete for the
destruction of the
Shitennou? Will the
senshi be able to band together as Chaos presses in from all sides?
